Our Mission
UUGI exists to bring together everyone who builds with Umbraco in India — from students writing their first document type to architects designing enterprise platforms. We believe the best communities are built on trust, generosity and mutual respect. This Code of Conduct describes the standards we hold ourselves to, so that every person feels safe, valued and able to contribute.
It applies to all UUGI spaces: in-person meetups and workshops, online sessions, the Umbraco Education Program, UmbraShow discussions, our chat channels, and any other space where the community gathers under the UUGI name.
Community Values
These values guide how we treat one another and shape every decision we make as a community.
Respect first. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and dignity, regardless of experience or background.
Knowledge is shared, not hoarded. We learn in the open and lift others as we grow.
Newcomers are welcome. Every expert was once a beginner; we make room for the next one.
Collaboration over competition. We celebrate each other's wins and solve problems together.
Community over ego. The health of the group matters more than any individual spotlight.
Expected Behaviour
We ask everyone in the UUGI community to:
Respect everyone, including differing viewpoints, experiences and skill levels.
Encourage collaboration and give others space to contribute.
Share knowledge freely and credit the work of others.
Welcome newcomers and help them find their footing.
Keep discussions constructive, on-topic and solution-oriented.
Communicate professionally, especially when you disagree.
Foster an inclusive environment where everyone can participate.
Unacceptable Behaviour
The following behaviours are not tolerated in any UUGI space:
Harassment, intimidation or stalking, in person or online.
Hate speech or discriminatory language of any kind.
Personal attacks, insults or demeaning comments.
Discrimination based on gender, religion, caste, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation or any other characteristic.
Spam, repeated off-topic promotion or disruptive self-marketing.
Deliberately disruptive behaviour that derails sessions or discussions.
Sharing offensive, explicit or otherwise inappropriate content.
Unwanted promotion, solicitation or recruitment without consent.
If a behaviour makes another community member feel unsafe or unwelcome, it falls short of our standards — even if it is not listed above. When in doubt, choose kindness.
Event Conduct
These expectations apply across all UUGI gatherings:
UUGI Meetups & Workshops
Arrive with an open mind, respect shared spaces and equipment, and give speakers and facilitators your attention. Photography and recording should respect the comfort and consent of those present.
Conferences & Networking
Treat every attendee, volunteer and organizer with courtesy. Networking should be welcoming and pressure-free — a "no thank you" is always a complete answer.
Community Events
Whether online or in person, keep interactions inclusive and professional so that first-time attendees feel just as welcome as long-time members.
UmbraShow Guidelines
UmbraShow is a community discussion series, and everyone involved shares responsibility for keeping it respectful and valuable.
Speakers — share honestly, credit sources, and keep discussions technical and constructive.
Guests — engage in good faith and respect differing implementation choices.
Moderators — keep conversations balanced, inclusive and on-topic.
Audience — ask questions generously and assume positive intent.
Live chat — stay courteous; no spam, self-promotion or harassment.
Recorded sessions — remember that recordings are public; speak as you would in any professional setting.
Umbraco Education Program
Our education initiatives depend on a supportive, distraction-free learning environment. We expect:
Students to participate actively, respect peers and faculty, and ask questions without fear.
Faculty to teach inclusively and support learners of all levels.
Volunteers to model the community's values and help wherever needed.
Organizers to run sessions fairly, safely and transparently.
Guest speakers to keep content relevant, respectful and appropriate for a learning audience.
Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness behaviour that breaches this Code of Conduct, please tell us. Reports are handled confidentially and taken seriously. You can reach the UUGI conduct team at any time:
Email: conduct@uugi.in
General contact: hello@uugi.in
At events, speak to any organizer wearing a UUGI badge.
When reporting, share as much detail as you are comfortable with — what happened, when and where, and anyone else involved. You are never required to share more than you wish.
Enforcement
UUGI organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, proportionate to the situation. Depending on severity, this may include:
A warning — a private note explaining the concern and the expected change.
Removal from an event — being asked to leave a session or venue, without refund where applicable.
Temporary suspension — a pause on participation in UUGI spaces for a defined period.
Permanent exclusion — a lasting ban from UUGI community spaces and events.
Decisions are made with fairness and the wellbeing of the community as the priority.
Updates to This Policy
UUGI reserves the right to update this Code of Conduct as our community grows and learns. Material changes will be reflected in the version number and effective date shown above. Continued participation in UUGI spaces constitutes acceptance of the current version.
